KTM 1090 VS Africa Twin

Honda is coming out with a new Africa Twin and they've released a new promotional image of it., I believe the last one was compared to the KTM 1090 Adventure R quite a bit, so the same will probably happen with the new one as well. We'll know more at EICMA.

Looking at some of the information surrounding the new AT, i'm very surprised by how far they went to cut weight. Its up to a level that you'd expect from Ducati, not Honda and not a Honda from this segment. Makes you wonder what else might be in store for the future.

Quote:
The Africa Twin Adventure Sportís kerb weight is 243kg for the manual version or 253kg with Hondaís automatic Dual Clutch Transmission system, with 2.3kg saved by a new lithium-ion battery.

The base-model also gets a lithium-ion battery and is 2kg lighter than its predecessor, at 230kg for the manual edition or 240kg with DCT.

The new Adventure Sport is closer in standard features to the 1090R than previous models...comes with crash bars and skid plate. Looks like the At will be around $2k more than the 1090R.

But the Ktm is 2 miles far beyond with its torque and power, on a very precise frame,

I was chossing between a Honda at and the Ktm 1090 adv. R.
Though the Honda has the edge in reliability there were some things that put me off.
The 2 line cilinder engine was modified in such a way that it came close to the v-twin whereas sound is involved,
But the v twin is just a real v twin and no imitation fur....
Another minor, bur for me disturbing thing was that with the Honda a cable was slightly in front of the display. A minor flaw, yet....
But Honda has many good qualities for sure. But I made the right choice: KTM 1090 Adventure R.

I had considered the Africa Twin but my local dealer will only allow a 45 minute test ride, whereas the KTM dealer has now let me spend a whole day on the Adventure R and another day comparing the Adventure and the Adventure R.

I had a Honda CB500X as my daily commuter for two years, yes very reliable but I was never too impressed with the dealers customer service, so in the end I never even bothered with the test ride on the AT

2 buddies haveyhe AT. Both have had to spend nearly 6000 more to get the suspension even remotely as good as the KTM 1090 . Both are bike mechanics and very experienced adv riders. They are very upset with the AT. AT front fork flex. Shity leaking seals.. rear axle bearings replaced within 10000km. Axle and bearings half the size of the KTM's. Only positive either had to say about the AT is it's great to have your feet on the ground when needed and seat really comfy. Motor seems reliable with more than enough gogo. They both said the KTM is much better built bike and ready to race.
