The 2018 MotoGP season is approaching and KTM has revealed the livery for its RC16 this week. Taking place at Red Bull’s aircraft fleet, Hanger-7 in Salzburg Austria. Given the honor of pulling the covers off were riders Bradley Smith and Pol Espargaro.
KTM first appeared in the MotoGP scene last year and managed to come in fifth in the manufacturers' standings ahead of Aprilia. A surprising turn of events even for both Espargaro and Smith, especially when one of them missed the pre-season test at Buriram after a crash.
"Nobody could say at the beginning of last year when we were starting [the Qatar race] on the two last places on the grid that we're going to finish in the top 10,” said Espargaro. Perhaps the new bikes will bring them closer to the front row on the grid.
Sure, the new RC16 may look very similar to its predecessor, but KTM assures us that what’s under the fairing is completely new. Also new this year is test rider Mika Kallio and a change of rules preventing KTM from making unlimited fairing changes throughout the season.
AutoSport should keep us up to date when the season kicks off in Qatar this weekend.
