Sticking Fuel gauge

733 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Henwin
Ok so 4 weeks after picking up my 2000mile 2018 bike. the fuel gauge sticks at full. After filling it up full . Now the first couple of times I only part filled it. So question. Does it jam against the top or is it fuel contamination of the float. Regret not sure. I filled the top edge of the float plus cleaned residue off sides .So I will only part fill it a few times to see. Before going for a max fill.Watch this space.as they say

The level sender float is a known problem. Mine was fixed under warranty, but since yours is out of warranty, you'll either have to buy one (make sure it is the new part #) or there are posts on how you can repair it. Basically the float is removed and sanded down slightly so that it can move in the tube even after swelling.

My dealer in Reno, NV replaced my fuel gauge float on my 2018 1090 in late 2019. The bike was still under warranty, but he made it sound as if it would be covered out of warranty because it is a known problem. Since the replacement I have been using Maxima Fuel Enhancer to deal with the ethanol additive, and I have not had the same problem.
I have half filled it a few times since repair. Is fine so far. Reminds me of the fuel tap issue on my old 990.which kept leaking due to defective washer. Just spoils an otherwise great bike
