Dear Friends,

Imo the 1090 advr can compete with africat 1100, Triumph, Bmw....
It’s lighter, has more power.
It’s therefore better than the 790 advr
It makes more offroad sense thans the 1290 Dvr

So why did KTM finish the production of this model?

The only reason I can think of is that it competes with its own brand.

Or are there other reasons?

Please let me know.

I am just having a stab at a theory.

I believe KTM needed to compete with other brands and hurried the 790 production on. WHile that was happening a lighter more off road capable bike was produced with the lc4 engine. the 1090 was born.

Personally i place it as perfectly weighted bike in the adventure market. Not to be confused with the 1290 which I believe is a travellers bike. Or an enduro where the 690 belongs.

For me I get the best of all worlds on a bike that I can go anywhere on with as much luggage as I want. When I ge there I can take it all of and have a play...and it looks so so good.....

This is all about marketing or creating a market. The move away from the larger adventure “touring" bikes makes a lot of sense to me, but the 1090 has shown me what the ultimate adventure bike is. It is easy to get it to the 990 standards. I have ridden the 790 and it is a nice bike, but to me the 1090 is a great bike. The new 300 class adventure bike is a marketing ploy in my opinion. I would rather ride a 500 or even a 350 dual sport at that size bike. I had a BMW 1200 GS and it was a great Touring bike, but not a bike I enjoyed riding on double track or even logging roads. The 1090 is a lot more nimble and fun to ride in my mind. I love this bike.

I dont have a 990 and never have but a good friend of mine has both. He had the 990 and gave it to his son and he got the 1090 for himself. Both of us are old school desert racers. He changed his suspension and ergonomics. I have ridden his 990 and it is fitted out like a dirt bike with the seat height and handle bars. I know he installed a different saddle and lowered the handle bars and it does feel more like the 990. I know the suspension of the 1090 is supposed to be better but in feel it is a lot different than the 990 and he revalved his and changed the spring and it has a more dirt feel. He also shed some pounds by installing a different exhaust and dumping the CAT. I am looking to make some of the same changes when I can handle the hit on my wallet. He has a better pension than I do. LOL. Sorry if that doesn’t completely answer your question.
